Ministry promises to be 'fair' to The Heat

Editors of weekly newspaper The Heat have met officials from the Home Ministry today over its indefinite suspension.

According to a statement by the management of The Heat published on theantdaily.com, they are extending their full cooperation to the ministry to fully resolve the matter.

"The ministry has assured us that it will consider The Heat's appeal to lift the suspension in a fair and prompt manner," read the statement.

Additionally, the company's management said that The Heat'spublishing licence was approved by the Home Ministry on July 8, 2013 under the "economy/social" category.

"Subsequently, it applied to change its category to 'current affairs'. Approval was given on Sept 18, 2013," said the company.

Last week, the newspaper's publication licence was suspended indefinitely but both the Home Ministry and HKC Media Sdn Bhd, The Heat's owners, have kept mum on the reason.

There has been widespread speculation that suspension had to do with The Heat's frontpage report titled 'All eyes on big-spending PM Najib' on its Nov 23-29 edition.
