Serdang Hospital's ceiling has reportedly caved in yet again, making it the fifth such incident since 2011.
According to the Malay-language daily Utusan Malaysia, the incident occurred at noon yesterday at the nurses' counter of the hospital's Emergency and Trauma Department ‘Red Zone', which is for patients in need of immediate medical attention.
"It is understood that the location of the collapse is near an area where patients are placed, and following that it has been closed for repairs," the report said.
No one was reportedly injured in the incident.
When contacted for confirmation, an unidentified hospital staff said she was not at liberty to release any information and askedMalaysiakini to call again during office hours tomorrow, when its senior officials would be available for comment.
The 620-bed hospital was completed in 2005 at a cost of RM690 million. However, ceiling collapses have become a recurring problem at the hospital since the first one in 2011.
Thus far, four hospital staff have been injured in the incidents when the ceiling at the emergency department fell on Aug 13, 2012.
The last incident took place in Nov 14 at the neo-natal intensive care unit, barely a month ago on Nov 14 this year.
