BERA - "Mama, adik have to leave now," the parting words still keep ringing in the ears of Normah Jaafar, mother of Khairul Amri Selamat who was on the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 which ended in the Southern Indian Ocean, as announced yesterday, after leaving the Kuala Lumpur International Airport for Beijing, China on March 8.
Normah, 56, felt the last words was a bad omen for her to be separated from her youngest son whom she called 'Adik'.
"Kak Nor regret Adik's words. Normally, we would chitchat for at least an hour before he went anywhere but it was very different on that day. Mama miss adik, He was good, cheerful and had never hurt Kak Nor's feelings," said the single mother in tears while being comforted by several friends and family members at Taman Kerayong Makmur here, today.
Khairul Amri, 29, an aviation engineer, was one of the 238 passengers and crew aboard the MAS flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur for an assignment to repair an aircraft in Beijing.
He was married to Ernimartila Mustafa, 29, and blessed with a son who is 20-months-old.
Normah said she passed out twice after listening to the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on the fate of the aircraft last night and was treated at the Triang Health Clinic.
"I never expected the tragedy, especially after waiting with full of hope for 17 days. The news last night was really shocking. I did not eat since returning from the Everly Hotel on Thursday and only drank water because I was too sad, and it had weakened me," she said.
Normah who was also prepared to go to the location of the crash, if directed by MAS, appreciated all parties who had helped track flight MH370.
She also thanked relatives and friends who gave her moral support throughout the difficult period. -BERNAMA
