There’s a growing public perception that the quality and mental stability of the judges gracing the Court system in Malaysia may be suspect.
KUALA LUMPUR: The consensus of opinion, not only among Muslims, is that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s “do nothing” style of leadership is taking a toll on the nation and conveying an impression that it’s degenerating into disorientation, confusion and chaos.
“There are many trends emerging in the country which need leadership and intervention but Najib sits pretty, doing nothing, and gets praised to the skies for this,” said Raub MP Mohd Ariff Sabri Abdul Aziz in his latest blog posting, Islam Kita diancam, (Our Islam under threat).
He reiterated that there are enough people with influence in the country to cause social unrest. He identified these as ex-Judges, NGOs, underground organisations, and others who can rock the nation’s stability.
“There’s a need for brave leadership but Najib lacks the ability to be firm,” moaned the MP. “As a result, these forces are virtually running wild especially in the kampungs.”
He cited, based on the constant screeching in public, the perceived “threats to Islam” as a case in point.
Who can threaten Islam in Malaysia?
“Those who threaten Islam are Muslims themselves who interpret the religion as they like and say that this is the true Islam,” said Mohd Ariff. “In fact, this radicalisation is a worldwide trend. We have always practiced Islam in moderation.”
“The militants have hijacked Islam and this is affecting the religion’s credibility.”
If Islam cannot defend itself by standing on its own, based on universal values, but instead needs to be defended by squads of so-called defenders, he continued, this raises a big question mark.
Islam, he stressed, was not being threatened by non-Muslims, but by the militant Ustaz and others who have taken it upon themselves as self-appointed God’s representatives on Earth.
There’s also a growing public perception, warned the MP, based on ex-Chief Justice Abdul Hamid Mohamad signing up with Perkasa, that the quality and mental stability of the judges gracing the Court system in Malaysia may be suspect.
“It’s really surprising that such a bigoted person became the Chief Justice,” said Mohd Ariff.
The MP did not state in his blog posting what he expects Najib himself to do, except preside over chaos, if the law enforcement authorities in the country are not up to the mark and the Attorney General himself has time only to go after the Opposition.
