Umno should apologise for failing the Malays

YOURSAY ‘Shabery Cheek, you are seeing ghosts others do not see.’

Minister: Land where Malays not welcomed

Malaccan: If the Malays in Penang and elsewhere are poor and cannot afford anything other than low-cost housing after five decades of governance, then Umno and BN are responsible for this sad state of affairs.

Despite the tens and hundreds of billions given away in race-based programmes, yet Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek blames others.

Could it be that the billions spent and allocated were not given or channeled to the Malay masses but misdirected by sleight of hand into the coffers of Umno leaders and their cronies?

Shabery Cheek has the cheek and spittle to place the blame on others when he and his comrades in Umno and BN must bear the full blame for the imposed dwarfism of the towering Malay intellect, the enslavement of the Malay independence and the impoverishment of the Malay riches.

Shabery Cheek would want Malays to continue to be beggars in this nation, where they beg Umno for scraps, and where honest workers and the poor of all races and faiths must remain beholden to these modern-day slave masters.

War Child: Minister, you are talking nonsense. You are seeing ghosts others do not see. Land cost has consistently been rising.

In the cases of redevelopment, luxury condominiums have to be built to bring in the profits. Do you have any reports from competent professional organisations to show a lack of Malay ownership in such condominiums?

Low-cost housing is another issue. State governments must reserve land for such projects. I think Penang is no exception and definitely it is not doing less than the other states controlled by BN.

In Kuala Lumpur, in my opinion, Jalan Langgak Golf is a highly exclusive residential area. A very prominent Malay is a resident of this road and he is not even a former prime minister. One can ask him if he has detected any signs of resentment displayed by his neighbours.

I am inclined to conclude that you are taking cheap shots at scoring points for your forthcoming Umno Baru AGM (annual general meeting).

Anon1: Shabery Cheek, are you saying that all those gazillionaire Malay businessmen, government cronies and/or AP (approved permit) kings who gets all sorts of aid and federal ‘projek’ and state ‘projek’ can't afford to buy property in Penang/Klang Valley?

Is everyone supposed to afford high-end properties? If so, scrap the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) fund and give a million or two to each Malaysian.

Secondly, why didn't you talk about government policies which have already taken away certain business dominance enjoyed by other races in the past? Why pick on Penang when the ordinary men in the street there is not complaining?

Instead of lies, name where and when that particular party has said (as opposed to "would say") that there are no cheap or low-cost houses. Give the facts, figures and witness accounts. The people you made stupid all this while are no longer stupid anymore.

Anonymous_1403851580: Yes, Shabery Cheek is right. Only after PKNS (Selangor State Development Corporation) starts building houses, many Malays and Indians were able to own them.

When the Chinese were developers, all houses were booked by the Chinese and later transacted at a higher price. Now the built-and-sell option makes it impossible for many middle-income groups to own houses. The government must check on this.

Having a multiracial country is not enough; we must create a multiracial society too in our housing estates.

Wira: Shabery is making this accusation because the Penang state government is not giving permission to Umno to build high-cost houses on acquired land.

Playing up racial sentiments to push through a greedy agenda is not going to solve your predicament, YB. Even the Malays are being turned off by you.

Anonymous #40538199: If those big government-linked property development companies don't start building affordable housing in a big way, private companies will have no pressure to build and sell such housing.

The government must instruct the GLC property development companies to carry out their social objective. These GLCs should not be involved in building bungalows or semi-Ds.

Gerard Lourdesamy: What twisted logic is this? If some Chinese own big cars, big houses and shares in big companies, that is because of their intelligence, hard work and ability.

They did not depend on government handouts under the New Economic Policy (NEP) or other skewed policies of the Umno-BN government that have only benefitted their cronies.

Are the Chinese to be blamed because of Umno's stupid economic policies that have created a Malay dependency syndrome and caused them to be trapped in an income/wage trap? Who has been running the country since 1957, Umno or the DAP?

Umno should be man enough to stop blaming every other race for their own failure to uplift the Malays economically and socially on par with the Chinese simply due to their sheer greed, avarice and incompetence.

Gen2: This is a case of a racist giving us lessons in how to recognise racism. Umnoputeras have turned the practice of racism into an art form. Now they try to stick that label onto others.

David: In the last 50 years, Penang was governed by BN and the property ownership ratio has not changed under the present government.

You are right, Mr Minister, we should audit how big is your house/s to begin with. Every word that comes out from these Umno leaders is laced with racial hatred. -Mkini
