The quake measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale occurred 6km northwest of Ranau, the department said in a press statement.
Last night, another weak earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale struck Ranau.
On June 5, Ranau was shaken by a moderate earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale which claimed 18 lives.
In another statement, the department said that a moderate earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale had also occurred in the Eastern New Guinea Region in Papua New Guinea at 11.01pm yesterday.
The statement said quake's epicentre was 100km North of Lae, Papua New Guinea and 3362km southeast of Semporna, Sabah. – Bernama
