The retail prices of RON95 and RON97 petrol as well as diesel is down by 10 sen per litre in August effective at midnight tonight.
The new price after goods and services tax (GST) for RON95 is RM2.05 per litre while the price for RON97 is RM2.45 per litre and the price for diesel is RM1.95 per litre.
"The price will be effective from 12.01am, August 1," Malaysian Petrol Dealers Association deputy president Datuk Zulkifli Mokti said.
The announcement also refuted rumours on social media which alleged the government would be increasing the price of the three types of fuel by as much as 35 sen per litre.
Meanwhile, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism minister Datuk Hamzah Zainudin said the ministry is not involved in determining petrol and diesel prices.
He said the function of the ministry was to see users' acceptance whether the fuel prices should go up or down.
"We give inputs, but the decision is not ours to make."
On rumours about a hike in fuel prices, Hamzah said: "We do not know the price of petrol and diesel. It has been two months, the ministry has not issued any statement regarding the matter." – Bernama
