CYBERJAYA: The water tariff in Johor will be increased to between RM2 and RM3 per cubic meter for domestic use in excess of 20 cubic meters and 35 cubic meters respectively per month, beginning tomorrow, the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) announced today.
In a statement here, SPAN said the adjustment of water tariffs in the state was done following a proposal from Syarikat Air Johor Holdings Sdn Bhd to raise rates, last year.
For domestic users, the new water tariff for the use of 0 to 20 cubic metres (m3) is RM0.80 sen per m3, and the use of 20 to 35 m3 will be RM2 per m3.
Water consumption in excess of 35 cubic meters would be charged RM3 per m3, respectively, the statement said.
SPAN said 79.2 per cent of users (722,797 accounts) who utilised not more than 35m3 of water per month would see their bills increase between RM2 and
RM9.25 per month.
While for non-domestic users, the new water tariff for the use of 0 to 35m3 is RM2.80, and whatever was above 35m3 would be charged RM3.30 per m3.
“A total of 78.3 per cent of (non-domestic) users (108,920 accounts) who use no more than 35m3 of water will experience a water bill increase of between RM4 and RM7 per month,” he said.
The last time the water tariff in Johor was reviewed and adjusted was on November 1, 2010.
