The Bill was tabled by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron (BN-Sungai Udang) and seconded by transport and project rehabilitation committee chairman Datuk Lim Ban Hong (BN-Klebang).

He said it also involved the allowance for the Malacca legislative assembly Speaker who was not appointed from among the assemblymen, from RM6,109.29 to RM8,000, while that for a Speaker from among the assemblymen would now be RM7,000 per month.
He said the deputy speaker's allowance would be raised from RM2,662 to RM3,000.
Idris said the raise also involved 106 retired state assemblymen, who would receive a raise based on the number of years served.
