"I am frustrated by the decision because police did not take the necessary action to investigate my case. This is not a false claim or politically motivated. Being threatened with rape is not a joke," she said at a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.
She said that she now has no confidence in police.
"All I want is justice. I want for individuals who are caught by police, especially women, to feel safe while in custody," she said, unable to hold back her tears.
Maisara, 21, lodged a police report on May 10 alleging that a policeman had threatened to rape her during interrogation after her arrest over the May 1 Workers Day rally.
She said the incident occurred on May 5 a few hours before her release at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters where she was held.
Maisara said that throughout the investigation she was not even called for an identification parade to identify the policeman who had allegedly threatened to rape her.
"I will not stop here. We are going to fight on," she said.
Maisara's lawyer Michelle Yesudas said she was informed of the status of the case by the investigating office on June 29.
"I phoned her and she said the case has been classified as NFA (no further action) by the AG," said Michelle.
Meanwhile, lawyer Nik Zarith Nik Moustpha said that police investigation into Maisara's case was weak.
"It was a straight-forward and simple case. It should not have dragged for months to complete it and they did not even call Maisara for an ID parade when she was ready to identify the person who made the threat against her," said Nik.
He said when asked why an identification parade was not held, police replied that AGC did not instruct them to conduct one.
"Police also did not gave any explanation why the case was classified as NFA," Nik said.
He said the legal team would gave police another two weeks to re-look into the case.
In the meantime, he said that they will lodge a complaint with Suhakam (Human Rights Commission of Malaysia).
"We are also thinking about taking legal action but it is depends on our client," said Nik.
Civil activist and former Bar Council president Datuk Ambiga Sreevanisan who also attended the press conference, said the police were not serious about their investigation.
"For a start they should not have taken so long to investigate. They didn't take this threat seriously," she said.
Also present today was Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah.
