Secret Recipe is halal again

Jakim has certified the Malaysian restaurant chain as halal after the renovation and upgrading of their central kitchen.

KUALA LUMPUR: Secret Recipe announced today that they have been certified halal by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) after the recent completion of the renovation and upgrading of their central kitchen.

In a statement today, they said a team of quality and hygiene assurance and halal compliance officers were established to ensure that the central source of their ingredients, preparation and processes complied with food safety standards and Malaysian Halal Certification Standards, including Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) guidelines.

Secret Recipe had their halal certification revoked last month by Jakim after having failed to meet cleanliness guidelines.

Jakim had said that the certification had been revoked on May 7 over “serious violations” in cleanliness and manufacturing practices.

Jakim had stressed however that the Malaysian restaurant chain, which has hundreds of outlets nationwide and abroad, did not lose its halal certification for using non-halal ingredients prohibited for Muslim consumption.

It said the company could reapply for its halal certification once it had complied with Jakim’s guidelines.

“We reassure that food safety and quality control are of our main priority, as, we have been following rigorous processes and standards to maintain our certification for the last 15 years and we will continue to uphold our promise to you,” said Secret Recipe today.
