State RTD director Datuk Valluvan Veloo said according to Rule 4A of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, heavy goods and public service vehicles, including express buses, were not allowed to use the right lane except when overtaking.
"They who violate these rules can be compounded RM300," he told Bernama during Op Bas Ekspres at the Sungai Buloh rest and recreation (Kuala Lumpur-bound) today.

He said 10 express bus drivers were detected speeding on the right lane of highways during the operation. The RTD also inspected 84 buses and booked 25 buses for 35 offences. Twenty-eight summonses were issued to bus drivers for various offences, he added.
Among the offences often committed by express bus drivers were smoking while driving, using mobile phones while driving, parking illegally, driving without the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) license, and failure to comply with traffic signs. Buses were often found to have the rear brake not working and lacking a fire extinguisher.
Valluvan said 12 express buses were also found to be without a second driver. "All express buses must have two drivers for a journey covering over four hours or 300km," he said.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with the 1JPJ Young Squad and the National Anti-Drugs Agency. It started at 2.30pm yesterday and ended early this morning. – Bernama
