Najib reassures public of government's commitment to preserving peace and security
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Najib Razak said today that the government remained committed towards fighting any form of terrorism, racialism and religious extremism.
He emphasies the importance of preserving peace, harmony and security in the country.
“Recently, we were jolted by various news on terrorist attacks in Jakarta, Istanbul and Paris which killed innocent members of the public,” he said in a Facebook entry.
“I wish to emphasise that Malaysia will remain committed in going all out against any form of terrorism as well as racialism and extremist religious sentiments. This is important to preserve peace, harmony and security in the country.”
His remarks come in the wake of suicide bomb attacks in Jakarta on Thursday in which five terrorists and two members of the public died. The Islamic State terrorist network has claimed responsibility.
Police have stepped up security efforts in the country.
