Turning to the divine, Kadir tells MACC officers to search their souls

A veteran editor newsman has turned to the divine with regard to the decision by Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali not to prosecute Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

A Kadir Jasin called on the “god-fearing” officers of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to search their souls.

“Can they continue to serve the agency after this?” he asked in a blog posting.

He warned it is only a matter of time before the commission would be taken over by the

puppet-on-the-string type in order to secure and close shut what the AG announced today.

Kadir also recalled that over the decades, he witnessed numerous extraordinary and unbelievable events.

Therefore, he believes certain things are best left to the Almighty.

He said Apandi’s decision brought to mind a similar "no case" ruling by a former AG involving sex-related allegations against the former Malacca chief minister Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik.

“It was a difficult time for us editors because Abdul Rahim was an effective CM and was much loved by then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” he said.

Therefore, Kadir said his advise to younger colleagues and the rest of despondent Malaysians is not to play god and let history run its course.

“There are things in life that are best left to divinity,” he added.

As for the “extraordinary appointment” of Apandi to the board of Tabung Haji, Kadir said the timing could not have been less inauspicious.

“It confirms the suspicion that something abnormal is happening at the pilgrims fund,” he added.

With the events of today, Kadir said Apandi elevated himself to the status of troubleshooter extraordinaire of the prime minister in just over half a year - a meteoric rise indeed.

“The court of justice may not have the chance to prove or disapprove Najib’s culpability. He may be safe from prosecution for now.

“But despite the AG closing the case, the court of public opinion will continue to try him.

“As for all of us, we have to do some serious soul searching if we care for this country and its future,” he added. -Mkini
