SHAH ALAM: Azmin Ali says he is willing to let go of the bitter past with Dr Mahathir Mohamed for the sake of the “Save Malaysia” campaign.
Speaking to an audience of about 1,000 people at the People’s Congress here, Azmin looked back on Mahathir’s time as Prime Minister and Home Minister, during which dissidents such as the DAP’s Lim Kit Siang, Mahfuz Omar of PAS and others were detained under the Internal Security Act.
“It’s okay. History has taught me and other leaders to appreciate the meaning of the people’s struggle. We want to be better persons, not bitter persons,” he said.
Azmin said only a bitter person would constantly complain about the past whereas “a better person will take positive action for the future”.
Azmin, who is deputy president of PKR and Selangor menteri besar, said it was important for the Save Malaysia movement to succeed, in order to fix the system.
“We want to put the rule of law in place. Not the law of the jungle,” he said.
Turning to the media and TV3, Azmin urged them to show a “correct image (of the crowd) instead of empty chairs” and urged them to show it to Najib and Rosmah (the prime minister and his wife). “For sure, they won’t be able to sleep tonight,” he said.
