Gangsters threaten council officers at Orang Asli village

MPS President Puasa Md Taib says the group obstructed his officers from doing checks on a rubbish disposal site in the village.

PETALING JAYA: The Sepang Municipal Council (MPS) today revealed the presence of gangsters who had taken control of a garbage disposal site in Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Melut there.
Speaking to FMT, the council’s President Puasa Md Taib said his enforcement officers had been victims of threats by these gangsters.
The situation had prevented his officers from carrying out their duties.
“The gangsters have placed a group to guard the entrance to the garbage disposal site. My officers say they were chased out of the area.
“Yes, there are gangsters there,” he told FMT when commenting on the gangsters’ control over the Orang Asli village.
Puasa said his men would conduct a meeting sometime in April to coordinate all appropriate agencies to take necessary action.
Security and Development Committee Chairman Johan Mat, in charge of the area, had claimed that the gangsters were interfering with checks conducted by the Department of Orang Asli Development (Jakoa) and the Environmental Department.
Sepang Police Chief Abdul Aziz Ali, when contacted, said he was not aware of any gangsters in that area.
“We have not received any report of such activities. If he (Puasa) contacts us or lodges a report, then only will we look into it.”
The disposal site was said to have started operating in 2014.
Villagers residing around the area claim that the land was meant for farming but all such activities came to a halt when the gangsters took control of it.
