SHAH ALAM: Lim Kit Siang says the only reason the nation’s political leaders agreed to gather at the People’s Congress was because they collectively want to save Malaysia from the administration of Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Speaking to over 1,000 people in the Shah Alam Convention Centre here today, Lim said politicians from both sides of the divide were willing to set aside their differences to achieve a common goal borne out of their undying love for the country.
“Tell me, are these the faces of anti-nationals, of traitors? Whether it is those who are sitting down there (audience) or those who are on stage, do we look like we are anti-nationals?
“We gathered here because we love the country, because we want to save Malaysia from Najib.
“We also want a new breed of Malaysians. A new breed of Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, and Ibans. That is the only way we can save Malaysia.”
The veteran politician said there were various reasons why the country needed saving and cited the scandals of 1Malaysia Development Berhad and the RM2.6 billion donation as two incidences that should never take place again.
He also talked about the independence and efficiency of national institutions.
“We have now become a strange country. Yesterday there was a list of 50 most influential leaders in the world and at number 49, is Sarawak Report’s editor, Clare Rewcastle-Brown.
“But in Malaysia, this individual is banned, her website blocked when all she wanted was to bring transparency and good governance into the country,” said Lim.
He also pointed to the untimely deaths of former political aide Teoh Beng Hock after being questioned relentlessly by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and 14-year-old Aminulrasyid Amzah who was shot to death by the police six years ago.
“Do we want a country where a 14-year-old boy can be killed? We don’t want any more Teoh Beng Hocks, or Aminulrasyids. We want to be proud of our society and that is why we want to save our country regardless of race, religion, or politics.”
