Former Umno Batu Kawan deputy division chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan today reiterated his desire to see the freeing of jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
The Umno grassroots leader who quit his party on Feb 29 was speaking during his campaign to garner signatures for the Citizens’ Declaration spearheaded by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
During a walkabout at Kompleks Muhibbah Ampang, Selangor today, he said he held the same conviction even when he was still an Umno member during his release from prison last November.
“When I was released from prison, I had (announced) to the public (then) that if there is any move to release Anwar, I would be the first man from Umno to attend the (event) and (voice my) support,” Khairuddin stressed.
He was commenting on the hashtag ‘#Free Anwar’ appearing on the Citizens’ Declaration banners displayed during the walkabout today.
