What can Pakatan do for Mara that we aren’t, asks Khairy

Youth and Sports Minister says Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad needs to be specific when claiming Pakatan Harapan can improve the functions of the agency.

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has to be more specific when he claims that Pakatan Harapan (PH) can improve the running of Mara, Khairy Jamaluddin says.

“What can PH do to improve it if the government is already doing the best for it?

“He has to be specific when he says such things,” Khairy told reporters outside Parliament lobby.

The youth and sports minister said this in response to Nik Nazmi’s claim earlier today that Mara would not only be preserved but further improved under PH’s guidance to ensure the agency met its objectives.

Nik Nazmi also alleged that Mara has strayed from its original objectives as the agency had been used instead by a few individuals to further their own interests. He cited the multimillion ringgit property scandal in Australia as an example.

The Seri Setia assemblyman said this when commenting on Prime Minister Najib Razak’s declaration that Mara’s survival was dependent upon Umno’s continued rule.

In rebutting Nik Nazmi’s arguments however, Khairy, who himself said he was a product of Mara, said the agency had a proven record in helping the Bumiputera community in terms of education and business.

“Mara helped thousands of Malaysians including myself. I got a Mara loan to go to university.”
