Don: Only someone exceptional can take on Najib in Pekan

Those who intend to contest against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in the forthcoming general election must be truly exceptional, an academician says.
The candidate must also be someone who has been in the political arena for a long time, said Prof Madya Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Said.
"The candidate must be on par with the likes of Anwar Ibrahim or Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) lecturer told Sinar Harian.
If the candidate was just an “ordinary person”, Mohd Azizuddin said, then the prime minister would have no problems in defeating him.
However, he said, it would be up to the respective individuals to decide on whether to take on Najib in his parliamentary stronghold of Pekan in Pahang or otherwise.
“It is up to them, win or lose is a secondary issue,” he added.
Mohd Azizuddin was responding to a Sinar Harian report that a pensioner by the name of Abdul Rahman Mohd Nor wanted to contest against the prime minister.
Claiming to be from Pekan, the 69-year-old retired government servant said he was disappointed with Najib over the 1MDB issue and other scandals.
In a video published on YouTube on March 21, an immacutaley dressed Abdul Rahman said that he, as the head of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) Pekan division, hopes to be chosen as the candidate for the seat.

The father of four said he joined the civil service after obtaining an Economics degree from Universiti Malaya in 1972, and retired in 2004.
“In the early part of my career, I served five years with the Malaysian High Commission in London.
“Among the significant tasks I performed was to personally assist and look after the late Abdul Razak Hussein (Najib's father), our second prime minister during the last three weeks of his life when he was undergoing medical treatment in London,” Abdul Rahman said.
Claiming that Malaysia was suffering due to the incompetent leadership of Najib, he cited the United States Department of Justice suits and other related matters.
“To save our country and people, Najib has to be defeated in the election,” he said, claiming that the “honest and peace-loving” people of Pekan are “ashamed” of their representative.

On a sarcastic note, Abdul Rahman claimed that unlike Najib, his financial resources with regard to campaigning for the seat was limited, and that he does not have “Arab donors”.
“I only have myself and a few close supporters. If you are willing to support me in this fight against corruption and incompetence, I will be very grateful,” he said, providing details of his Maybank and Standard Chartered Bank accounts.
Najib was elected as the Member of Parliament for Pekan in 1976, at the age of 23, replacing his deceased father.- Mkini
