Ex-navy man found dead with throat slit in Sitiawan

An ex-Royal Malaysian Navy personnel was found dead with his throat slit in some bushes near Jalan Kampung Cina in Taman Sri Mawar in Sitiawan today.

The body of Mohd Supian Md Samat, 35, was found lying face down in a pool of blood by a passer-by about 9am.

Manjung police chief ACP Tengku Mohd Zailan Tengku Ahmad Shah the victim was found lifeless near his motorcycle when the police arrived at the scene.

"Initial examination by the medics on the body at the location revealed a cut mark on the victim's throat, believed to have been caused by a sharp weapon.

"The victim's motorcycle which was lying on its side was found seven metres from the body and all his personal effects were intact," he told a press conference in Sitiawan today.

Mohd Zailan also said blood was splattered on the road, suggesting there might be strangulation before the victim was killed.

"We have yet to identify the motive behind the incident but we believe group was involved. However, no weapons are found (at the scene)," he said.

The body was taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the deceased's wife, who only wanted to be identified as Wati, 35, said the last time she saw her husband was before Mohd Supian left their home in Taman Sri Mawar for a nearby sundry shop at 1am.

The woman said she did not realise that her husband had yet to come home and continued sending their children to school as usual before she was informed about the incident by her neighbour.

"He was rarely at home as he had been attending a course on heavy machinery in Kedah since early last year. He only came home on weekends," she said when met at her house.
