About 3,000 housing units, mostly bumiputera quota for luxury homes in Johor, had their land status converted into international lots since the end of 2013.
Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin said from the conversion of the land status, the state government managed to secure RM600 million from developers for the Bumiputera Property Fund, which was then used to build more than 6,000 units of Johor affordable housing (RMMJ) project.
The amount was the payment from the developers to the state government to apply to convert the property status in the state.
He said that the conversion of the land status have also been carried out in other states but the procedure was different.
“It involved houses that cost more than affordable housing units and mostly were of expensive and luxurious homes category,” he said after officially opening the meeting of SMK Taman Scientex Parent-Teacher Association, Pasir Gudang, near Johor Baru today.
“Meanwhile, other states such as Selangor have also practiced the land status conversion of the bumiputera lot, so the opposition should not just blame Johor for implementing it,” said Mohamed Khaled.
Thus, he stressed that the conversion of land status did not involve RMMJ contrary to the opposition’s claims.
He said that, if there was leakage, he would let the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate.
“The issue here is that there could be leakage. So we will let MACC to investigate. I will not interfere,” he added.
