The report of the 1MDB committee has been submitted to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, according to one of its members Cynthia Gabriel.
However, she said the contents should not be made public yet.
Gabriel, who also heads the Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4), cited ongoing investigations into the state investment firm as the reason the report should remain classified.
"It (the report) is meant to be submitted to the prime minister. Of course in the interest of transparency, we want it to be disclosed.
"But it is difficult because investigations are not complete. So it cannot be made public at this point," she told Malaysiakini today.
Gabriel said that the findings cannot be revealed when the probes by enforcement authorities are only halfway complete, "in case there is a change of information later on."
She added that the contents of the report can only be made public when the attorney-general decides to take the cases to court.
The 1MDB committee was established under the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) to investigate matters related to the firm and is chaired by former attorney-general Abu Talib Othman.
Besides Gabriel, PwC Malaysia's Nik Shahrizal Sulaiman, Naqiz & Partners' Syed Naqiz Shahabuddin Syed Abdul Jabbar, and Otoritas Jasa Keuangan Indonesia's Faris Rabidin also sit on the committee.
Cynthia's remarks echoed that of economist and former CEP member Jomo Kwame Sundaram, who said that the council's report to Mahathir should remain confidential due to its sensitive nature.
Yesterday, Mahathir told reporters that the CEP's findings might not be made public.
He said the government does not always publish the decisions it makes. - Mkini
