PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has criticised Putrajaya for appointing Petron as one of its fuel suppliers, saying that it reminded the public of previous nepotism concerns.
"It brings back memories of nepotism in the past.
"It should not be repeated by the Pakatan Harapan government, as Petron is linked to his (Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s) son," he told journalists in Ampang today, referring to Mirzan Mahathir.
The Finance Ministry yesterday clarified that the appointment of Petron was to foster "healthy competition" between the government’s fuel suppliers, which also include Petronas and Shell.
Mirzan is a director of Petron's Phillippines-based parent company Petron Corporation, and has 1,000 shares.
However, Petron Malaysia said in 2013 that Mirzan was only involved in the activities of its parent company.
"Mirzan does not own any shares in Petron Malaysia nor does he have any role in the company," a statement from the company read..
Tuan Ibrahim said a “total change” was needed for a “new Malaysia” to emerge.
"Such negative perceptions should not have been allowed. It is a failure of the current government to fulfil their promises," he said. - Mkini
