KUALA LUMPUR: Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has assured prepaid card buyers that they will receive the full amount if they reload their prepaid mobile phone.
“We have issued the order that we want to ensure that a prepaid card for RM10 will be worth RM10. The 6% service tax will be credited back as it is set in the service tax system.
“There should not be technical problems but if it happened, we will give rebate to the buyer for the same value,” he said as quoted by Bernama, following complaints by some mobile users who spoke of the lower value of their prepaid reload, after deduction of the sales and services tax (SST) which took effect today.
Meanwhile, the Communications and Multimedia Ministry said it was aware of complaints over SST being imposed on mobile prepaid reload cards.
“An official statement will be issued in the near future,” its minister Gobind Singh Deo said on Twitter. -FMT
