KOTA KINABALU: The Pakatan Harapan-led federal government has the duty to fulfil its manifesto promises to Sabah, says former chief minister Bernard Dompok.
The United Pasok Momogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) honorary president said the federal government must keep its promise to restore the rights of Sabah and Sarawak in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), as specified under its general election manifesto.
He hoped the current government would be fair and consider the participation of all political parties in the MA63 special committee set up earlier.
“This will ensure the committee is on the right track in restoring Sabah’s rights.
“The current government must take clearer action. All political parties must be represented in the committee,” he said at the UMS Kadazandusun Chair Lecture Series here yesterday.
Meanwhile, he reiterated his full support for Upko president Madius Tangau and the decision to leave Barisan Nasional (BN) and work together with the Warisan-PH coalition to form the Sabah government.
Tangau led Upko and four Upko assemblymen out of the BN coalition on May 11.
He has since been appointed the deputy chief minister and industrial development minister. Another Upko assemblyman, Ewon Benedick, was appointed rural development minister.
“I support Tangau’s decision to join hands with Shafie but it was never made to ensure I could stay on as ambassador to the Holy See,” he said.
Dompok was one of several Malaysian envoys who were recalled after the PH government took over the reins of the federal government in May and his position has not been filled yet. -FMT
