IN OLIVE BRANCH TO DR M & CO, CHINESE EMBASSY COMPOSES SONG TO CELEBRATE MALAYSIA-CHINA TIES: ‘ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL & CAPTIVATING OR NOT’, THE VIDEO TOUCHES MALAYSIAN HEARTS

PETALING JAYA – The Chinese embassy here has composed a song to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations.
In a post on the embassy’s page on Sunday (Jan 27) night, it said that “The Left Shoulder” was composed in collaboration with two Malaysian singers.
The song was performed by two young Malaysian singers, (Jeryl) Lee Pei Ling and Siti Nurmasyitah Mohd Yusoff to show the warmth and depth of the China-Malaysia friendship, it said.
The song’s first stanza speaks of the strong ties shared by both countries, saying that the nations “climb over the mountains” together.
“Although there are setbacks, you calm my heart. My loyal and honest company throughout our lifetime. My right shoulder will protect you from the wind and rain. My left shoulder will be where you lean on,” goes the song.
The video has since been viewed 28,000 times and shared 580 times, with more than 800 users reacting positively to the post.
Facebook user Lin Yee said that the video was “absolutely beautiful and captivating”, while Chung Shui Lin said that the words “left shoulder” have a deep meaning.
“I admire the wisdom of the lyricist. The tune is also very touching,” she said.
The embassy said that a Malay version is being worked on and would be presented to the public “pretty soon”.
Ties between the two countries were first established in 1974 after Malaysia’s second prime minister, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, visited that country, the first South-East Asian leader to do so.
