PETALING JAYA – The Wattozz Gun, a wireless electroshock device soon to be available in Malaysia, will offer an alternative non-lethal weapon for local law enforcement authorities.
The gun, first launched in Ankara, Turkey on Dec 5 last year, is a remote-controlled, multi-shot wireless electroshock weapon. It has reportedly been used in the United States and United Kingdom, and is designed to incapacitate an offender from a safe distance without causing death or permanent injury.
Wattozz Gun is expected to be available in Malaysia by end of February.
Dian Synergy Sdn Bhd (Dian Synergy) managing director Bahtiar Rahim said the gun will cost not more than USD$2,000 (approximately RM8,283) per unit.
“We are expecting our sales to hit 5,000 to 10,000 units per year with more competitive pricing than our competitors. We are optimistic that this device will be well-received as it is much safer than what is available in the current market,” he told reporters after the launching ceremony of Wattozz Gun at Persada Plus, here, recently.
Bahtiar said Dian Synergy, the sole distributor of Wattozz Gun in Malaysia, has already submitted proposals to the Home and Defence Ministries, and will also promote the weapon to the Prisons and Customs departments.
“Wattozz is not only effective in protecting the user’s safety, but also provides a safe alternative in apprehending rather than injuring the target. Hence, it will be safer for enforcement officers, such as the police, when handling chaotic situations,” he added.
