Johor Sultan tells Harapan reps to support MB, not to be traitors

All Pakatan Harapan assemblypersons in the state must give their support to Menteri Besar Dr Sahruddin Jamal, Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar said today.

"Every government assemblyperson must give good views and strong support to help the menteri besar and his administrative line-up, and not act to the contrary to divide the government or be a hidden enemy," he said.

The monarch said this when officiating the second sitting of the 14th Johor State Legislative Assembly.

Sahruddin succeded Osman Sapian as the new menteri besar last April.

However, in a departure from political norms, Puteri Wangsa assemblyperson Mazlan Bujang became Bersatu Johor chief, instead of Sahruddin.

Mazlan was previously a Johor state executive councillor, but was dropped in a reshuffle pushed for by Sultan Ibrahim as a condition for Sahruddin becoming the menteri besar.

Mazlan, along with DAP's Tan Hong Pin had reportedly courted the monarch's displeasure.

In his speech today, Sultan Ibrahim also urged all Johor state lawmakers to refrain from politicking while in the state assembly.

"Mind your manners when debating, and avoid talking about party issues or sensitive matters regarding race and religion," he said.

He said he would always be keeping an eye on them and cautioned them that the state administration should run smoothly. - Mkini
