PETALING JAYA: The Facebook announcement by a former PKR divisional women’s head to jump ship to Umno has caught Melaka PKR Wanita chief Ginie Lim by surprise.
In expressing regret over former Tangga Batu Wanita PKR chief Rohani Mahmood’s move, Lim said she will probe the actual cause and provide an explanation to the party’s political bureau.
“Rohani had attended the state Wanita leadership buka puasa event, as well as the state Wanita PKR meeting on May 21, but had not raised any issues concerning quitting the party.
“Rohani was once state women’s chief and was last the Tangga Batu PKR women’s chief-cum-state PKR women’s vice-chief.
“She has always been active in party programmes as well as election campaigns,” Lim said in a statement.
In response to Rohani making her announcement of her resignation through WhatsApp as early as January, Lim said she did not receive any letter to that effect. This meant that Rohani remained as Wanita division head.
As for the resignation of another women’s division head, Laila Maidon, “over health reasons”, Lim said this had been accepted by the state Wanita leadership meeting on May 21.
Laila’s resignation as Kota Melaka women’s chief had also been conveyed to the Wanita PKR national chief, state leadership council and the Kota Melaka division head on May 24.
In the interim, the deputies for both the Tangga Batu and Kota Melaka Wanita PKR divisions will be acting chiefs. - FMT
