PUTRAJAYA: Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng today said it is possible for Malaysia to achieve 5% gross domestic product (GDP) this year.
Acknowledging the government’s high debts related to 1MDB and other agencies, he nonetheless maintained that this is doable.
“We have not gone bankrupt despite these huge debts, and we can still pay our civil servants their salaries,” he said at the 2020 Budget Consultation Council meeting at the finance ministry here.
He added that the government hopes to reduce its deficit to below 3% in 2021.
The deficit target for 2020 remains at 3%.
