Teachers must be taught how to handle disciplinary cases, says union

The National Union of Teaching Profession says teachers must be taught how to impose appropriate punishment.
KUALA LUMPUR: Teachers should be given special training to handle disciplinary cases, said National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP) secretary-general Harry Tan Huat Hock.
He said this is important to address problems pertaining to students with disciplinary issues which are seen as worrying.
“Cases such as bullying, theft, sexual misconduct and drug abuse were hardly heard of in the past but it is different nowadays due to changes in society.
“Therefore, it is important for teachers to be given training and exposure to handle such cases,” he said after appearing as a guest on the “Ruang Bicara” talk show programme produced by Bernama News Channel (BNC) at Wisma Bernama here last night.
Tan said teachers should be given exposure in legal matters and equipped with knowledge on how to impose punishment for certain offences. - FMT
