KOTA KINABALU: A total of 58 students sitting for public examinations were confirmed positive for Covid-19 yesterday, state minister Masidi Manjun said.
The cases were detected from screening tests before the students returned to the school hostel.
The patients were in Sandakan (10 cases), Lahad Datu and Semporna (seven cases each), Tawau (six), Kalabakan, Kota Marudu, and Kudat (four cases each) Kinabatangan and Ranau (three each), Telupid and Tongod (two each) and Beaufort, Keningau, Kota Belud, Kunak, Papar, and Pitas (one case each).
The students and their close contacts have been placed in quarantine.
Masidi said screening tests are only done on SPM and STPM examination students before they return to the hostel while teachers have not been required to do so.
However, he said, all teachers and school staff should always be sensitive to their health, including seeing a doctor to undergo screening tests if they have symptoms.
On a Covid-19 case at Tulid secondary school in Sook, he said so far only one student and one teacher were confirmed positive. They were receiving treatment while 64 close contacts are in quarantine. - FMT
