PKR Youth vice-chief Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman has called on Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador to state if there have been any further developments over the probe into a sex video that allegedly implicated Gombak MP Azmin Ali.
"Azmin is not qualified to accuse others of immorality while he himself has been associated with various moral problems.
"The betrayal of PKR and Gombak voters is proof enough that he is not a dignified human being.
"Based on the statement of the Inspector-General of Police TanSri Abdul Hamid Bador last year, the investigation into the sex video could not be continued due to technical factors.
"Therefore, I would like to ask the IGP what is the status of the case now? A year later have the police still failed to find any evidence to confirm the identity of the perpetrator (in the video)?" asked Syed Badli in a statement today.
Commenting on a sex video said to have been taken in a hotel in Sandakan, Sabah, the police chief said in 2019 that Cybersecurity Malaysia found that it is "highly probable that the video is authentic" but that "the outcome of the facial recognition process is negative and it cannot link the 'pelaku' (person) in the video to the 'individual mentioned'".
Azmin, who helped bring down the Pakatan Harapan government last February, had in his reply to a suit by voters alleging that he had breached his fiduciary to them, cited his loss of faith in PKR president Anwar Ibrahim as one of the reasons for his decision to leave PKR and join Bersatu.
Explaining his loss of faith in Anwar, Azmin cited among others, Anwar's alleged sexual practises.
In a statement of defence filed through his law firm Tetuan Zharid Nizamuddin, Azmin said he did not think Anwar was qualified to lead PKR nor become prime minister.
"The claim is supported by a number of strong allegations with regard to Anwar's action and/or sexual practices that as a Muslim is immoral, particularly after he was freed (from prison) and returned as the PKR president," the statement read.
Azmin cited two cases, namely Mohammed Yusoff Rawther's allegation of sexual assault against Anwar and similar claim by Aidil Azim Abu Adam who had since claimed he was "manipulated" into making the allegation.
Anwar had denied the allegations of sexual misconduct.
Azmin has also denied the allegations and said that he was the victim of a smear campaign to end his political career in PKR.
The case has never been closed, and the case will be reopened if there is new evidence, said Syed Badli.
"I urge the authorities to announce the latest status of the case and not to be biased in protecting any influential individual," he added. - Mkini
