Alumni want answers to claims UiTM Raub lecturer 'pressured' to resign

Nine former Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Raub students have demanded an explanation from their alma mater after a teaching staff member was allegedly unceremoniously removed.

In a joint open letter published yesterday, they pointed to rumours that Che Hamdan Che Mohd Razali had been “pressured” to turn in his resignation letter on Dec 28, 2020.

The former Faculty of Administrative Science and Policy Studies students questioned the move as the lecturer was promoted to the campus’ deputy rector just six months before on Jun 15.

“This issue raises doubts as Che Hamdan would not have resigned without a reasonable reason.

“Furthermore, if the rumours are true that he resigned due to pressure from his superiors, this would be a heartbreaking and untoward incident.

“Especially at UiTM - an institution that is principled upon changing the destiny of its citizens,” they said.

The signatories were Ronnie Anthony, Asyraf Zulkelfi, Yusri Hilmi Azman, Khamarul Aqmal Mantan, Akmal Ariff Mantan, Danial Qayyum Mantan, Iman Norhizam, Muhammad Iqkma Hakim Mantan and a self-styled “Syukur”.

The open letter came after allegations surfaced on social media that a UiTM staff member was fired for organising a study tour to the headquarters of an opposition political party.

Malaysiakini has contacted UiTM for a response.

Che Hamdan declined to comment for this story. - Mkini
