Ampang Jaya OCPD urges public not to take advantage of leeway given to exercise during MCO

AMPANG: Police personnel here have been instructed to increase checks and take sterner action on those who flouted the standard operating procedures (SOPs), says Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak.

He said that the instruction has been given to the movement control order compliance taskforce.

"The people should not take advantage of the leeway given when cycling and jogging are permitted "If too many people are jogging or cycling at the same place, then it will be crowded," he added.

He advised the people to adhere to the SOPs as the main goal is to curb the spread of Covid-19.

"While there are many who are genuinely exercising, I feel that there are some who just wanted to cure their boredom by doing so and that should not be the way.

"For the time being, if you have no urgent business, stay at home.

"All of us must play our part in curbing the spread of the virus," he said.

Meanwhile, a check by The Star in Taman Melawati, Ampang, on Sunday (Jan 17) revealed that there were many people who were cycling either in groups of two or more while there are those who jogged.

Those who are cycling in groups might have done so for safety reasons.

Some cyclists were also seen taking a breather by the side of the road or at bus stops while some stopped by roadside stalls to buy drinks or food.

There was even a family who brought their toddlers along for exercise.- Star
