Covid-19 death toll in Selangor mounting

 

Selangor has recorded a total of 72 Covid-19-related deaths, of which nearly two-thirds occurred since Dec 1.

The number of deaths in Selangor plateaued between June and November before rising exponentially in December.

Unlike Sabah, only a very small number of Covid-19 deaths in Selangor (two) involved foreigners. The median age of victims is 66. The male-female ratio is approximately 2-to-1.

Today saw nine deaths reported in the state, just one day after a staggering 33 severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sari) cases were reported.

Patients with Covid-19 symptoms, including Sari, are more likely to develop complications compared to the majority of those with Covid-19 but without symptoms.

Based on the figures from the Selangor Health Department, the number of Covid-19 patients with symptoms has been on a steady rise since December and reached 118 today. This is believed to be a new record.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has repeatedly stated that Covid-19 patients are at the highest risk of infecting others between three days before developing symptoms and seven days after developing symptoms.

The Selangor Health Department does not publish how many people end up needing intensive care or ventilator support to breath.

However, from the Health Ministry's national latest report today, patients in intensive care or require ventilator support are at an all-time high.

The Selangor Health Department is the only Health Department to publish granular data on the source of tests which would otherwise be categorised as "lain-lain saringan" (other forms of screening) by the Health Ministry in its daily reports. - Mkini
