Covid-19 (Jan 26): 3,585 new cases, record numbers in ICU

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 3,585 new Covid-19 cases amidst a growing number of patients who require intensive care and ventilators to breathe.

Leading indicators:

  • Active cases:  40,574 ↓ (503 less than the previous day)
  • Patients in ICU:  280 ↑ (19 more than the previous day)
  • Intubated patients:  111 ↑ (10 more than the previous day)
  • Deaths: 11

The Klang Valley reported the most number of new cases (54.3 percent) followed by Johor (14.6 percent) and Sabah (8.6 percent).

In Selangor, 187 new cases were detected among individuals without symptoms and are not linked to existing clusters. This is relatively higher, considering that most states are reporting new cases in the double digits only.

Of the 3,585 new cases, 85.2 percent involved Malaysians. There were two import cases.

Currently, the January Covid-19 death toll has reached 229, more than double the number reached in the whole of December 2020 (111). The cumulative Covid-19 death toll has reached 700.

Patient 184,812 - Female, 49, passed away at the Tanjung Karang Hospital, Selangor

Patient 185,320 - Female, 82, passed away at the Sungai Buloh Hospital [Classified as a case from Kuala Lumpur]

Patient 185,334 - Male, 55, passed away at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital

Patient 186,470 - Male, 59, passed away at the Sibu Hospital, Sarawak

Patient 186,490 - Male, 76, passed away at the Sibu Hospital

Patient 189,806 - Male, 42, passed away at the Penang Hospital

Patient 190,157 - Male, 92, passed away at the Sibu Hospital

Patient 185,400 - Foreign female, 54, body brought to the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital

The Health Ministry is currently monitoring 356 clusters of which 95 reported new cases today. Only one cluster - Pasai (111 new cases, confined to Sibu, Sarawak) - reported new cases in the triple digits.
