DAP: Why is a man in charge of unity playing up Chinese sentiment?

 

DAP Youth chief Howard Lee criticised Deputy National Unity Minister Ti Lian Ker for allegedly playing up Chinese sentiment.

This is after Ti, who is an MCA vice-president, claimed the DAP failed to adequately represent the Chinese community and had given in to Malay leaders while it was in government.

"This is the sad state of affairs that we are living in when the deputy minister for national unity keeps spewing the Chinese versus Chinese narrative.

"The reality is, a majority of Chinese Malaysians voted for DAP which is a multiracial party, as opposed to his party - a monoethnic party.

"Surely this is something a deputy minister of national unity should be applauding," Lee said in a statement today.

"Yes, we understand that his party is really trying hard to extract relevance from the power and prominence they had sold their souls to obtain.

"But really, the national unity deputy minister sowing seeds of intra-ethnic division using the racial card? That is absurd and regressive politics of the highest order," he added.

Lee said Ti's criticism was hypocritical, coming from a Chinese party that relied on the non-Chinese for its political survival.

Furthermore, he noted that the MCA previously criticised the DAP for working with PAS. DAP was in a political alliance that included PAS from 2008 to 2015.

He said that at the time, PAS was led by the late Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat who was respected by both friends and foes but under current PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, the progressive and professions forces in the party have left.

It is the same party that the MCA is now cooperating with, Lee added.

"It is clear that the deputy minister has now chosen to embrace the party that MCA views as extreme and radical. Furthermore, their 'unholy polygamous matrimony' is held together by the likes of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s Bersatu, Umno and MIC," he said.

Lee said MCA supported a coup against the elected Pakatan Harapan government and is now hammering at DAP's 22-month performance in the government.

However, MCA should answer for what it had done in the six decades while it was in power until 2018 and after one year of the coup in March 2020, he added.  - Mkini
