Snap elections are likely to happen within 60 days of the emergency ending on Aug 1, or even before that, said Ketereh MP Annuar Musa.
As such, he said Umno leaders must ensure that the party was on the winning team.
"What's most important for us as Umno members is to ensure Umno wins the general election, or at least that Umno is part of the winning team.
"As such, it is the responsibility of the 'admirals' to steer (the party) towards success, not towards destruction," he said in a Facebook post today.
He added that party leaders must not be arrogant, or duplicitous.
Annuar, who is also federal territories minister, is part of the pro-Perikatan Nasional faction in Umno.
He has claimed that party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is working together with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim to bring down PN.
Umno is supposed to decide whether or not to sever ties with PN-anchored party Bersatu at its general assembly.
However, the AGM has been postponed due to the second movement control order.
The PN Plus government secured an emergency declaration ostensibly to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Under the emergency, elections have been suspended.
The emergency is set to end on Aug 1, although an independent panel may advise the king to rescind the emergency earlier. - Mkini
