Frustration over the operating hours of food outlets during the second movement control order (MCO 2.0) has sent the hashtag #SiBodohKauDengarSini (Listen here, idiot) trending on micro-blogging platform Twitter.
The trend started when a Twitter user who goes by the handle @farhanazahan complained about not having dinner twice after missing the order window.
The netizen also lamented that unlike a minister, there is no maid to serve her food after getting home from work.
Under MCO 2.0, restaurants must stop operating by 8pm. This means food delivery services stop taking orders as early as 7.20pm.
However, another Twitter user @puterirajaawan responded by saying that the people shouldn't complain and they should instead consider reheating food to eat.
This prompted an angry reaction from @yarafaee_ who prefaced her sentence with "Si bodoh, kau dengar sini" (Listen here, idiot).
"People don't have time to cook after getting back from work because we need to get up early for work again the next morning," she said.
She added that food delivery services need to fulfil a large number of orders within a short window.
The post gained more than 9,500 retweets and 16,300 likes within a day.
The Malaysian Twitter community started adopting the hashtag #SiBodohKauDengarSini when it became the top trending item last night with over 30,000 tweets using it.
"That was the most powerful opening statement ever. I believe it is specially for politicians," said @ellOnMars_.
"I was wondering why #SiBodohKauDengarSini was trending and it turned out to be this tweet (by @yarafaee_).
"I have the privilege to cook and work from home but yes, empathy to others is so necessary at times like this," said @dha_nuy.
Twitter user @Kashalia26 also shared her family's problem with the early closure time.
"Husband had to rush back home to buy dinner just now. He made it at 7.30pm, but all the restaurants were closed anyway, because they ration food to avoid leftovers when they have to close at 8pm. #SiBodohKauDengarSini," she tweeted.
Netizens have also used the phrase "Si bodoh kau dengar sini" to caption various memes.
MCO 2.0 came into effect on Jan 13 and will last until Jan 26 with the possibility of an extension.
It is aimed at limiting the movement of people to help curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
