PETALING JAYA: It is not mandatory for anyone to wear gloves in public or when shopping, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob has clarified.
His statement comes after a video, purportedly showing a policeman issuing a summons to a shopper for not wearing gloves, went viral.
In the video, the policeman can be seen reprimanding the shopper and instructing her to put on gloves immediately, before issuing the fine. It was not clear exactly what the fine was for.
“There is no SOP (requiring) glove-wearing!” Ismail said in a short Twitter post, in response to the video.
Meanwhile, Putrajaya district police chief Mohd Fadzil Ali reportedly clarified that the woman was not fined for not wearing gloves but for failing to comply with other SOPs.
He added that a worker was fined for failing to record his temperature and register himself on the MySejahtera application or manually before starting work. - FMT
