KOTA BARU: A congregation of not more than 50 would be allowed to perform Friday prayers at mosques in Kelantan from this Friday.
Kelantan Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) president Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz said the new directive would apply until the Movement Control Order (MCO) ends on Feb 4.
However, he said, daily prayers would be limited to a congregation of only 12 comprising the imam, bilal, siak and mosque committee members.
"In surau, we only allow five people, including the imam, to perform the daily prayers. But they must comply to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) strictly, as stated recently," he said in a statement.
Tengku Rizam, who is also Tengku Temenggong Kelantan, said Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, as the state's religious head, had consented to the matter.
He said MAIK hopes Muslims would give their cooperation by following the SOP so that it would go towards breaking the chain of the coronavirus transmission.
Otherwise, he said, stern action could be taken against those flouting the SOP. - NST
