Kelantan Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub insisted today that no other party had influenced his decision to withdraw his support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
The Machang MP said he did not declare support for parties other than Umno, nor did he touch on the next general election (GE).
"I can say, honestly, my decision was not influenced by any other party. I did it sincerely for the people and for my party.
"In my press conference, I did not touch on the GE or pledge support for any other parties.
"And I am not the first person to withdraw support. I am the second MP after Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah," Jazlan said in a statement today.
On Jan 9, the former Malaysian Palm Oil Board chairperson said his move to withdraw support was intended as a wake-up call or shock for PN.
Jazlan added it was to make certain parties realise that they needed to stop blaming or bullying Umno.
"What I did was just a wake-up call (to them), to put the people first. Do not blame Umno, do not bully Umno.
"I don't want to elaborate further on what form of bullying (they did)," he said.
Jazlan's announcement effectively left Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's PN government with 110 out of 220 MPs, pending two vacancies for the Batu Sapi and Gerik parliamentary seats.
Jazlan also gave nine reasons for his withdrawal of support for PN.
Among others, he cited the issue of loan moratorium and Employees Provident Fund withdrawals that were allegedly below expectations, as well as justice left unserved in the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim. - Mkini
