Penang private hospitals start admitting Covid-19 patients - CM

COVID-19 | A number of private hospitals in Penang have started receiving Covid-19 patients to lessen the burden of government hospitals in fighting the pandemic.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the Penang State Health Department was still having further discussions with other medical centres and several agencies for Covid-19 screening and treatment of various categories of patients.

"The government is also looking at a new location for a Covid-19 Low-Risk Treatment and Quarantine Centre (PKRC),” he said in a statement today.

Chow said that National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) officials had made a site visit to the Mara Excellence Centre in Jawi, Seberang Perai Selatan, last Saturday, in connection with Penang’s application to open a PKRC.

He added that the government was also focusing on infection prevention in the clusters originating from workplaces, particularly in the manufacturing, construction and services sectors, especially enforcement at the workers’ hostels and logistics.

Earlier, Chow attended the National Security Council Special Meeting: Managing Covid-19, chaired by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin via video conferencing.
