PKR Youth hits out at ‘double standards’ over ministers’ work visits

Akmal Nasir says authorities fined a woman in Segamat for not wearing a mask but failed to act against VIPs for not following MCO rules.

PETALING JAYA: PKR Youth has hit out at the government’s enforcement of the movement control order (MCO), saying there are “double standards” as Cabinet ministers are not adhering to the guidelines.

The wing’s chief, Akmal Nasir, said that under the rules, no official or unofficial events, including meetings, exhibitions and other activities, are allowed to be held.

In a statement, he said finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz and women, family and community development minister Rina Harun had gone on a work visit to the Bangi Industrial and Rehabilitation Centre on Jan 24.

He raised concerns about Rina’s presence as she had tested positive on Jan 10.

Akmal said senior minister for economy Azmin Ali had also breached the rules when we went on an interstate flood relief mission on Jan 17.

Azmin had said the relief mission to Johor was approved by the National Security Council.

“But the situation is different for the public, like what happened in Segamat, Johor, where a woman was fined for not wearing a mask when she got out from her car parked in front of her own cafe, even though CCTV footage shows the area was deserted.”

This, he said, showed bias and double standards where action was taken against ordinary people but not ministers. - FMT
