PM: No interstate travel nationwide, inter-district travel also disallowed in MCO areas

PUTRAJAYA: There will be no interstate travel nationwide during the 14 days of the movement control order (MCO), says Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

To reduce the infectivity of Covid-19 and to break the chain of infection, social activities involving mass gathering such as weddings, conferences, religious processions such as Thaipusam, meetings, seminars, courses and group sports activities will not be allowed.

“In areas where MCO is enforced, inter-district movement will also not be allowed.

“In states where recovery MCO is in place, social activities will however be allowed, subject to tight adherence of standard operating procedures (SOP), ” he said on Monday (Jan 11).

Muhyiddin said that roadblocks will be conducted effective midnight on Jan 13 and for those in MCO areas, movement will be limited to 10km radius only.

“For the purpose of obtaining essential items and food, only two per household will be allowed to be in a vehicle together. Individuals who violate this will be issued with the maximum compound of RM1,000, ” he said.

The Prime Minister said that eateries and restaurants in areas under MCO will be allowed to operate but can only provide takeaway service while areas under conditional and recovery MCO will be allowed to operate as usual with SOP in place.

Food delivery services will be allowed while supermarkets, clinics, hospitals, pharmacies and banks in MCO areas will be allowed to operate. - Star
