Sarawak extends MCO in Sibu, CMCO in rest of the state to Feb 14

Now, only 11 of the 40 districts in Sarawak are green zones.

KUCHING: The movement control order (MCO) scheduled to end this Friday in Sibu, has been extended to Feb 14, Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Douglas Uggah Embas said today.

He said the decision was made following the high number of positive Covid-19 cases in Sarawak and the declining number of green zones.

Apart from that, he said the state government also decided to extend the conditional movement control order (CMCO) in other parts of Sarawak until Feb 14.

“As of today, only 11 of the 40 districts in Sarawak have a green status. This shows that the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak is not yet under control,” he told a press conference here today.

Uggah, who is also Sarawak deputy chief minister, said Sarawak recorded one more Covid-19 death today bringing the total number of fatalities to 34.

A total of 70 new cases were recorded in Sarawak today bringing the cumulative number of cases in the state to 3,774. - FMT
