Senator Yaakob Sapari’s reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test results came back negative today, after he had tested positive for Covid-19 using an Antigen Rapid Test Kit (RTK-Ag) yesterday.
“I got the results back today, and it is negative,” Yaakob said to Malaysiakini today over the phone.
The former Selangor state executive councillor also shared his test results paper with Malaysiakini, which noted that Covid-19 was not detected in the individual.
It was reported yesterday that Yaakob had tested positive for Covid-19 after taking an RTK-Ag test.
The RT-PCR test is considered the gold standard for Covid-19 testing worldwide.
On the other hand, the RTK-Ag test is not as sensitive as the RT-PCR test even though it can provide results very quickly.
In recent days, a number of politicians have tested positive for Covid-19 including Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin, Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin, Economic Affairs Minister Mustapa Mohamed, and the Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Rina Harun. - Mkini
