Seremban, Port Dickson under MCO starting tomorrow

The Seremban and Port Dickson districts in Negeri Sembilan will be placed under the movement control order (MCO) for 14 days from Jan 19 to Feb 1, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today.

The move came after the two areas reported an increase of Covid-19 infections in the past two weeks.

"For Seremban, the Health Ministry confirmed that the rate of infection in this district is very high and there has been a significant increase of cases in the last 14 days, from 777 to 879 cases.

"Meanwhile in Port Dickson, the Health Ministry confirmed that there was a sudden spike in positive Covid-19 cases in the last 14 days involving several clusters, from 35 to 167 cases," Ismail said in a statement.

Upon the Health Ministry's advice, he said the government has decided to place the two districts under MCO to break the transmission of the virus there.

Negeri Sembilan is currently under the conditional MCO, along with Pahang, Perak, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan.

Meanwhile, Selangor, Sabah, Penang, Johor, Malacca and the Federal Territories were placed under the stricter MCO due to the high number of Covid-19 cases there.

Perlis and Sarawak are the only two states under the recovery MCO.

The various stages of MCOs will last from Jan 13 to 26. - Mkini
